Auliscus sculptus (W. Smith) Ralfs in Pritchard

     

 

   

Taxon description :

     

 

   


Cells are broadly oval or sub-circular in valve view.
The morphology of the valve face is very conspicuous.
Two large ocelli are present.
A complex array of curved costae radiate out from these ocelli
towards the valve centre and a large clear (hyaline) area in the valve centre.
A further ring of fainter costae is radiating from the valve margin.
Several plate-like chloroplasts are present.

Diameter: 40-80 µm

Distribution: The distribution of the species is not well known,
but has been observed e.g. from the North Sea, Channel and Irish Sea.
